The Authenticate and Update service is needed to allow proper game function. Like the name implies, it handles the authentication of your account and maintains the integrity of your game files. If it does not work, you will not be able to play. The solution to this problem comes in two phases.
If you receive an Authenticate and Update service error while installing the game take the following steps:
Turn your User Account Control (UAC) off.
Temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall
Select the installer and right-click, then select the option, "Run as Admin"
As a last resort, change the directory of the installation to any directory other than the default directory.
If you receive this error after successfully installing the game or the Patcer tells you to ,"Fix", take the following steps:
Run the game as an admin.
a) If you installed the game client from our website: Right click the game icon. Select the 'Run as administrator' option.
b) If you installed the game client through STEAM: Exit out of STEAM completely. Right click icon to launch STEAM and select the 'Run as administrator' option.
If the first step fails, open the Diagnostic and Support Tool and make sure that the default directory listed for your game files, matches the location of your game files on your hard drive.
You may need to manually restart the service.
a) Select the Windows start menu button and start a search with the term, "services.msc"
b) Locate the Hi-Rez Authenticate and Update Service, right-click and restart if it is running
c) If it is not running, select the Start option
d) In addition, make sure that the startup type is set to automatic
If this series of steps does not solve your problem, please create a support case so we can investigate further.
