Question

How do I fix the error: "The Hi-Rez Studios Authenticate and Update Service will not start on this machine"?

Answer

You can easily restart the service by opening the Hi-Rez Support and Diagnostic Utility and clicking the 'Restart Service' button.

If for some reason you cannot open your Support and Diagnostic Utility, you may need to manually restart the service.

Windows 7/8/10
  • Go to Start
  • Type 'Services.msc'
  • Press Enter
Windows Vista and XP
  • Go to start
  • Click Run
  • Type 'Services.msc'
  • Press Enter

Scroll through the list of your system's Services until you find Hi-Rez Studios Authenticate and Update Service. Right-click on the service and select:

  • Restart if it is listed as Started.
  • Start if it is listed as Stopped.

Also verify that the start-up type is set to "Automatic". To do this right-click on the Service and select properties. Click on the Startup type and select Automatic.

You will also need to make sure that you are running the launcher as administrator and that you have set exceptions in your virus protection and firewall.
